Ukraine Win 1st Mediterranean Cricket League in Split

Ukraine have won the inaugural Mediterranean Cricket League (MCL) held in Split, Croatia from 2-5 June 2016...

Ukraine beat Romania in the final to claim the title after four days of entertaining, quality cricket in Resnik at the home of Sir Oliver Cricket Club. The first ever MCL, which is European cricket's newest ICC approved event, was played two teams from Croatia (Zagreb, Split), Montenegro, Romania, Ukraine and the Ambassadors of Cricket from India, which featured former Indian test cricketer Abey Kuruvilla. Kuruvilla played 10 tests for his country and played along side one of the game’s greatest players of all time Sachin Tendulkar.

The final standings of the 2016 MCL is as follows; 1. Ukraine 2. Romania Bears 3. Split 4. Zagreb 5. Porto Montenegro 6. Ambassadors of Cricket MCL Best Bowler; Ramesh Satheesan 10 wickets MCL Best Batsman; Ayyaz Ahmed 183 runs MCL Tournament Champion; Ramesh Satheesan 10 wickets 129 runs.

Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich, who is of Croatian heritage, was the MCL Ambassador, whilst the Sir Oliver Cricket Club in Split and the Croatian Cricket Federation co-hosted the tournament.
