Chiefs Win 3rd VIS International Sixes

06.05.2014.
Zagreb's Chiefs Indians beat The Hostes from Vis in the final to be crowned the winners of the 3rd Vis International Sixes tournament held on the picturesque Croatian island of Vis from 2-4May... 4 teams from the UK (St. John's Wood, Royal Hotshots, Springfield Hurricanes, Beskoristan) joined local Croatian teams Sokol (Zagreb), Chiefs Indians (Zagreb), Sir Oliver CC (Split), The Hoste's (Vis), Slona Pogaca (Vis), and a combined side (Pick Up 6's) in the 3-day annual tournament. For the third year in a row The Hoste's had a chance to get their name engraved on the trophy when they knocked out Sokol in the first semi-final on Sunday. The Hoste's chased down Sokol's 35 with an over to spare. In the second semi-final, which was the match of the tournament, Springfield Hurricanes were beaten in the final over by Chiefs Indians, who went past 90 for the second time in the tournament. The Hoste's from Vis, in their 3rd consecutive final, won the toss in the final and sent Chiefs Indians into bat, and courstey of some agressive batting from Tonko Tabain (22), Akshay Daxini (20) and Pranav Sharma (25*), the Chiefs passed 90 for the third time to finish with a formidable 96 from their 6 allotted overs. The Hoste's would have to get going from ball one, and when they lost big-hitting opener Peter Mackelworth off the first ball of the innings their task got that much more difficult. Chiefs fantastic team spirit, coupled with some tight bowling helped restrict The Hoste's from Vis to 84, which sent the team, and their travelling fans, into celebration mode. The tournament, in its third year, was a huge success and credit must go to the Vis team for doing a stirling job organising the event and the amazing hospitality they provided all the sides and spectators. The 'spirit of cricket' was evident in abundance both on and off the field, and a testimony to that were the host of new friendships made throughout the tournament.
