Juniors From Berek Take a Liking to Cricket

14.06.2010.

On Monday June 14th, Croatia Cricket's Chief Administrator Craig Sinovich presented cricket to the pupils of Berek Primary School, located in the town with the same name and in close proximity to Bjelovar.

With approximately 50 pupils (the entire school) in attendance there was no room for any spectators and everyone had to take part. As usual, the presentation took the format of kwik cricket games being played between a boys team and girls team, which once again to the dismay of the boys, the girls ended up winning the first encounter.

After some kwik cricket, some fielding drills were run through, involving crazy catch competitions among others. Although Berek is a relatively small town, the interest stimulated by cricket in the town, as well as the excellent facilities and availability thereof definitely leans toward it being one of our main centres in the Bjelovar region.

Having heard of the presentation, the mayor has offered the towns help in getting cricket firmly cemented in the town's schedule of regular activities for its young people. Along with the mayor’s office, the school itself has offered any help we may need in making cricket a regular part of the school’s extracurricular program.

With Berek being our 6th established centre in the region, we look forward to holding our Junior Tournament in October this year and with the excitement and follow up of the initial presentation, it seems as though Berek hopes to be providing two teams.
