Cricket Arrives in Kaštela
11.05.2010.
With the mayor intrigued, the CCF presented cricket to another group of primary school children, this time in Kaštela, just north of Split.
In a continued effort to bring cricket to young people, the Croatian Cricket Federation has found the ideal partners in the British Embassy and local councils. This time it was the Kaštela municipality, together with Osnovna škola Filip Lukas that welcomed us with warm smiles and heaps of excited children.
As with Bjelovar, a basic presentation was done, where after the kids took to the field to play some kwik cricket. With the help of members from the Sir Oliver Cricket Club in Split, numerous games were played simultaneously and for the first time in the history of Croatian sport, the soccer players from the local club were outnumbered by budding cricketers.
A continual drive to create a cricket awareness has started to pay dividends with several schools having taken the initiative and contacting the CCF asking for cricket presentations to be held at their respective schools.
Another promising sign is the amount of girls who have taken to the sport which definitely bodes well for the future of women’s cricket in Croatia.
Once again, the Croatian Cricket Federation would like to thank Chris Frean and his team from the Embassy for opening another cricket avenue for us through the mayor’s office in Kaštela.
